Electrical Installation Condition Report

Why Condition Reports are importantFor nearly 40 years S J Reed and Son Electrical Engineers have carried out electrical testing including Electrical Installation Condition Reports (formally Periodic Inspection Reports).

Over time and with regular use every electrical installation deteriorates, it is important for the person responsible for the maintenance of the electrical installation to ensure they meet the latest safety regulations and standards.

S J Reed and Son Electrical Engineers electrical installation condition report consists of two main areas, firstly a visual inspection of the installation, and secondly live and dead testing of the electrical installation. On completion we will issue an Electrical Installation Condition Report.

The electrical installation condition report will take into account the following factors:

  1. Adequacy of the earthing and bonding.
  2. Switchgear and control gear suitability e.g. consumer unit.
  3. Serviceability of equipment e.g. switches, socket-outlets and light fittings.
  4. The wiring system and its condition e.g. cables coated in black- rubber, black-rubber was phased out in the 1960s and will need replacing.
  5. Presence of adequate identification and notices.
  6. Any visible wear and tear, and the extent of the damage or other deterioration.
  7. Changes in use of the premises which have led to, or might lead to, deficiencies in the installation.

Why Condition Reports are vitalThe report highlights any faults, and whether the installation is safe to use at the time of the test. With any faults found we will be happy to quote a price for rectifying these faults. Any highlighted faults within the report will need to be fixed and on completion of the electrical work (remedials) they will need to be retested in order to obtain a compliant Electrical Installation Condition Report.

It should be remembered that all electrical installations, should be tested & inspected at regular intervals.

It is recommended that an electrical installation condition report is carried out at least every:

  • 10 years or change of occupancy for a domestic installation
  • 5 years for a let property
  • 5 years or change of occupancy for a commercial installation
  • 5 years for offices installation
  • 3 years for an industrial installation
  • 1 year for caravan parks
  • 3 months for construction sites
